The Orlando Madness baseball club win 3rd Trophy in Miami, beating the Miami Red Sox 9-1 in the finals of the 2015 Miami Open Championship!

Picture this, Memorial Day Holiday Weekend, South Beach – Flamingo Baseball Stadium, spectacular weather, and it’s Miami versus Orlando in the opening game of the 2015 Miami Open Baseball Tournament.  Baseball Heaven!

Well, the opening game of the tournament went to the Miami Red Sox, who came from behind to beat the Orlando Madness team 6-5 on a walk-off RBI single by Bo Mulford in the bottom of the tenth inning. And it was another great game by the crafty veteran, John Emmons, who pitched all ten innings to pick up another big tournament game win. Emmons held the Orlando team in check for the entire game, giving up only a few earned runs. The Orlando team was down 4-0 but chipped away at the deficit each inning until a two run bomb to right field put them on top 5-4 after seven. But the Miami team tied the score on a pair of Jimmy Roberts crazy legs stolen bases before Mulford won it in the bottom of the tenth with a little magic stroke.

Orlando came back in the second game, beating the Fort Lauderdale Sting Rays 6-1 behind solid pitching and timely hitting. The late game featured a Fort Lauderdale – Miami matchup, with the Miami Red Sox pounding out a 8-1 lead. But the Sting Rays would not go down without a fight and rallied to put the game on the line in the ninth before losing 10-8. What a thriller.

Day 2 of the tournament featured the semifinal game in the morning with the Fort Lauderdale Sting Rays taking on the Orlando Madness. Orlando broke on top early 2-0 and then slowly pulled away before the inning from hell buried the Rays. Final score 9-1, Orlando over Fort Lauderdale. So the Orlando club advanced to the championship game versus the undefeated Miami Red Sox. And the rematch was on, but then, suddenly, Orlando was up and running away with the game on defensive lapses by the Sox. In the end, the Orlando team collected their third trophy in their semi-annual South Florida Hunt. Good hunting Orlando Madness.  Well deserved!
