The Broward Black Sox have won their 5th title (Black Sox/Broward Braves) in a great game vs. the Palm Beach Angels Arian came through with the complete game Victory earning him not just the Game MVP, but the Season MVP for our team. He also had great defensive support from both the infield and outfield that was able to shut down a few potentially big innings from the ever so dangerous Angels including a last inning outburst of 4 runs. Congratulations to the long time Black Sox and the new comers. Now let’s get ready to defend the title!! |

The Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) had no answer for the brilliant pitching performance of the Black Sox starter as the Halos fell to the Dark Hose in the championship final. The Black Sox were worthy champions as they played flawlessly. |

Sunday saw two great games between the A’s and the Miami D’backs as both teams looked for to take home the Premier Division Championship. In Game 1 of the Best of 3 Series, the A’s jumped out early to take a 6-1 lead as they took advantage of some wildness from the D’backs starter and some timely A’s hitting. Key to early runs was a 2 run double from Eric Perez and an RBI double from Jose Martinez as well an RBI ground out from Siby Vizoso. With a 6-1 lead, the D’backs made a great comeback with a 5 spot in the bottom of the 7th as they took advantage of A’s wildness and 3 costly errors. The A’s answered quickly as Alvaro Gomez drove in 2 in a 4 run 8th inning rally to give the A’s a 10-6 lead for an eventual 10-7 win. The 4 run cushion would be more than enough for Alex Arteaga who was lights out in Game 1. Alex pitched 7 of the 8 innings (he left after 6 and then came back to close it) while striking out 9. Key contributors offensively were Gomez who went 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, Jose Marintez who scored twice and stole a base and Albert Jarines who scored 2 runs. Game 2 was also a nail biter as the D’backs took an early 2-0 lead and the A’s bats got cold after banging out 8 hits in game 1. But the A’s tied the game in the 6th with a big RBI single from Ariel Bello and Carlos Alvarez and then took the lead in the 7th when Gomez singled and then stole 2nd and 3rd base before scoring on a SAC fly from Eric Perez. This would be enough for the A’s as they held on for a 3-2 win and their 9th SFBL Championship! |

THE NEW KIDS IN TOWN |
by Monster Mini Golf Monstruos (Senior Division) |
The monster mini golf Monstruos made a HUGE statement in there sfbl debut. Beating the Broward Indians 22 TO 0. The Monstruos offense erupted for 16 Hits, led by Bory Rios who singled on his first pitch of every plate appearance ; Jorge Suazo supplied the power with a 1-hop opposite field double in his first at bat, and an absoulte BOMB of a homerun in his next at bat. The star of the game though, David Jimmian had one of the best performances in league history accounting for 8 of the Monstruos 22 runs (3for3 2B 5RBI 3Runs). While also pitching a complete game shutout only allowing 1 hit while striking out 13 in only 5 innings of the mercy rule shortened game (5.0IP 13K’S 0BB 1H OER). So it’s safe to say, the new kids in town are here, and ready to win. |

Tigers overcome injury to win their opener |
by Dade Tigers (Masters Division) |
The Tigers opened up the season without their Ace Ryan Paylor who was out due to a dislocated left thumb. But pitcher Duniel Juan was more than ready to handle the task at hand – That is until he strained his hamstring in the first inning. The injury hindered his motion enough to walk 4 and give up 3 earned runs in 4 innings of work. But even with the injury Duniel was able to keep the Yankees to 3 runs while striking out 3 in 4 2/3 innings of work. Garvi Arias came in on relief and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings giving up only two hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4. Yankees pitching kept the Tigers bats pretty quiet through 5 innings only giving up 4 runs. But in the 6th inning the Tigers blew it wide open with 6 runs – 5 of which came off of the bats of Duniel Juans 3 run homer followed by a 2 run home run later in the inning off the bat of Rene Orovio. The Tigers had a solid start to their season racking up 10 runs off of 16 hits. And the defense also pitched in with no errors throughout the contest. Next up the Tigers look to keep it going against an experienced Black Sox team that can score runs and has consistent pitching staff. Notable contributors for Dade Tigers: Jorge Castellanos 1-3, RBI, 2Runs, BB, SF, SB. Rene Orovio 1-3, HR, 2 RBI’s, BB. Garvi Arias 1-3, 2B, 1 RBI, BB. Ramon Poo 3-4, 2B, SB, 1 R. Duane Medina 2-4, 2B. Eddie Castellanos 2-3, 2 RBI’s, SF. Angel Estevez 2-3, 1 RBI, 1Run. Duniel Juan 1-3, HR, 3 RBI’s. Jonathan Silva 2-3. |

Monstruos get put in there place. |
by Monster Mini Golf Monstruos (Senior Division) |
After a highly talked about opening day, the Monster Mini Golf Monstruos get put in there place by the veteran South Florida Beach Bums. With the Monstruos playing in there first morning game it seemed like the kids were out a little late on saturday night. With only 10 of the 18 Monstruo players attending the game and 5 of them showing up minutes before game time you can tell the kids were not here to play Sunday. That transferred onto the field with 7 errors and 11 walks by there pitchers. Thus, In conclusion the Beach bums took advantage and jumped on a team who did not come out ready to play, and certainly did not live up to the hype. |
