The A’s combined for 14 hits on Sunday which led to an 8-2 win over the Miami Marlins, pushing the A’s to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Tim Karkatselos continued his dominance on the mound as he went 7 innings while striking out 9. Ulpi Puente pitched the final 2 innings and struck out 3. Offensively, the A’s were led by Carlos Alvarez and Raymond Del Valle who each had 2 hits. Carlos is on an absolute tear as he has opened the season reaching base 14 straight times without making an out! Ulpi Puente also had 2 hits, one being a double and Albert Jardines added a 2 run double. Eric Perez, Siby Vizoso, Jose Torres, Luis Mila, Isaac Seaone Leo Portes, and Miguel Garcia all added hits in the win

The Miami Red Sox were looking for their first win of the season but gave up 5 runs in the 7th inning to let the game slip away. The Dodgers looked good, relaxed and played pretty much the same way.

Despite the Brewers Having 13 players on the lineup,the offense did very well. Sean had a Homerun,and JR,Bengi,& Popeye had 3 hits each. George K got the Win.

D-Backs lose to Brewers

It was a hot and windy day at Charles Hadley Park. The Brewers scored twice in the 1st on a 2 run homerun by Sean Hernandez. Yusbell Ortega drove in Ivan Asencion for The D-Backs in the 1st for a 2-1 deficit. The Brewers did not score in the 2nd. The D-Backs put up 3 runs in the 2nd on Gary Rader’s 2 run homerun for a D-Backs 4-2 lead after 2 innings. The Brewers scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning on only 1 hit (2 BB, 2 HBP) to bring the game to 7-4 Brewers lead. Neither team scored in the 4th and 5th. The Brewers scored 2 runs in the 6th on 3 hits and 3 BB’s for a 9-4 Brewers lead. Both teams would add a few late runs for a 13-7 loss for The D-Backs. Ivan Asencion and Yusbell Ortega each had 2 hits for The D-Backs. Starting pitcher Bob Villalona had 13 K’s, but also gave up 7 BB, 3 HBP. The Brewers played well and deserved the victory. Coming into the day this game was supposed to be a battle of two of the elite teams in the SFBL, but what it turned into was an onslaught. This was a true test for the MONSTUROS, as they could have taken sole possession of 1st place with a win, but flat out laid an egg. After a week of build for this game the MONSTUROS came out with no sense of urgency. They were flat from the get go and we’re not ready for this game. The team combined for only a handful of hits. Which is rare for them as in almost every game they have had double digit hit totals. Although the MONSTUROS didn’t bring their A game they still were in it through the first 8 innings as it was 2 2 heading into the bottom of the 8th when the wheels started to fall off the wagon. With the bases loaded and 2 out manager Roberto Barrabes had A decision to make whether or not to leave his ace pitcher Dave Jimmian in the game with bases loaded. The Monstruo Coaching staff decided that they were going to win or lose with Jimmian, and left him on the bump. The clean up hitter for the bums ended up with a clutch 2 run single that started a 2 out rally to put the game out of reach. This is the MONSTUROS 2nd loss of the year, and they are looking forward to next time when they face the bums because they know they can play a lot better. Bums Break Open 2-2 Game in the 8th inning

What was billed as an SFBL pitchers’ duel lived up to the hype…at least through the first 7 innings. Going into Sunday’s game, David Jimmian (Monstoruos) and Michel Jordan (Bums) had combined for 52 strikeouts in only 23 shutout innings. Together they only allowed 4 total hits. Earlier in the season the Bums handed MMG its only loss of the season but MMG was shorthanded and considered it a fluke. All week long there was friendly trash talk by MMG on Facebook and emails. With music and dancing in the dugout, they came into this week’s game very confident. The tone was set early by the Bums when 2-time SFBL MVP Bo Diaz hit a 2-out first inning Home Run off of Jimmian. A few innings later the Monstruous would tie game but Diaz would get another RBI hit to give the Bums a 2-1 lead. Later in the game, the Monstruous tripled in a run to tie the game. A failed 2-out squeeze play ended the inning with the score tied. The Bums broke it open in the bottom of the 8th inning when Nick Kempen’s two out bases loaded hit score two runs and gave the Bums a 4-2 lead. The Bums would add 5 more runs and take a 9-2 lead en route to the win. Jordan was spectacular as he kept hitters off balance. He went the distance, throwing a complete game and recorded 12 K’s for his second win in as many games. The music faded from the MMG dugout. It was quiet. The Bums showed that its earlier win this season was no fluke.

It was the game we anticipated and the Monarchs came up short to a prepared Blues team. Blues pitcher Kenny pitched well and we look forward to playing them again. Happy Holidays to all!

This game was for bragging rights in the Dade Senior Division. The score was 0-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd. The Blues manufactured the game’s first run without a hit. A lead off walk by Billy Zoffinger, a stolen base, a hard grounder by Brent Lozano hit behind the runner moved Billy to 3rd. Then a long sac fly by Ryan O’Malley. 1-0 Blues. The Monarchs answered with 2 in the top of the 4th. The Blues usually steady defense broke down and we gave up 2 unearned runs. 2-1 Perrine. In the bottom of the 4th with 2 outs Kenny Tyson hit a single. Billy Zoffinger hit a hard grounder down the line scoring Kenny. Score 2-2. In the top of the 6th another breakdown on defense gave Perrine another run. Score 3-2 Perrine. In the bottom of the 6th with 1 out Sean Emory hit a hard single up the middle. Brian Nentwig hit a hard line drive down the left field line for a double scoring Sean. With 2 outs Brent Lozano hit a hard clutch 2 out single to left scoring Brian. Score 4-3 Blues. Kenny retired the next 9 batters in a row for a 4-3 win. I’m nominating Kenny for player of the week. Kenny’s pitching line read like this: 9inn, 7 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 BB, & 11 K’s. Kenny was also 2-3 with a double, run scored and a BB. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. See you in 2014.

The South Florida Reds made it look easy with a smooth 11-1 rout of the Southern Yankees. On a beautiful day @ the ballpark the Southern Yankees would take an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but were outscored 11-zip the rest of the game. Joe Darelli, Jerry Wichert and Sam Bartoletta would all get aboard via walks in the bottom of the first with no outs and the Southern Yankees looked poised to break the game open early. Eric Judd came through with a long sac fly to center to score Darelli but an inning ending double play induced by Reds picher Leon snuffed out any more damage.The Reds scored 2 in the top of the second to take the lead and cruised the rest of the game. In the fourth the Southern Yankees would again load the bases but another inning ending hard hit double play ball curtailed any damage. All in all the Southern Yankees would hit into 4 double plays as the Reds played flawless dEfense. Even when we hit the ball hard it was right at someone with a red and white uniform. Thats baseball for ya ! Reds pitcher Leon was an artist on the mound& walked six, struck out 5 and only allowed only 3 hits to the Southern Yankees feeble attack. Player/Manager Ray Asmar clubbed two of those 3 hits and Sam Bartoletta the only other hit the team could muster. Pitcher Eric Judd pitched valiantly in defeat giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits with 5 walks. He struck out 8 redbirds and has a bright future once he gets in pitching rhythm and the Southern Yankees bats decide to wake up from their extended game slumber. All in all a dissaponting loss when we had numerous chances to break the game open, we could not get the big hits we are accustomed to getting from the dormant Southern Yankees lineup. We were missing many key players especially Reidy & the Tomasi sluggers and look to return to the formidable lineup of previous seasons as we resume baseball in early January. Please enjoy the Christmas holiday and New Years with your family, friends and loved ones & cherish these times with those very special people in your lives. May the following- Hope,Faith,Inspiration,AppreciationProsperity & Laughter be in abundance for everyone in the coming New Year ! For many of you I hope Santa brings you a new bat along with your potent swing back. You all have what it takes to continue to compete with the 18 Year olds on the baseball field so dont forget that as you will all come out of your batting slumps in the near future. Babe Ruth led the league in strikeouts but he also led the league in homeruns. At least for a long while he did. Remember that! STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!

Great game by both teams an error by me in the bottom of the seven was the differnce in the game, good game tigers, from everyone in the Black Sox family Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

This was a hard fought battle between two good hitting teams that turned out to be a pitchers duel. The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when 3rd baseman Garvi Aries hit a 2 run home run (his third of the season). Tigers added another run in the bottom of the 3rd when manager Rene Orovio went deep to left and put the contest at 3-1. It pretty much stayed that way due to in part by a great pitching performance by 60 year old veteran Nelson Ruiz, who went 7 innings not giving up a single walk and striking out 4. Ruiz had command of the Black Sox until the 7th inning when he gave up a single followed by a home run. With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom the of the 7th Jonathan Silva hit a hard ground ball that was played well but Black Sox first baseman could not secure the throw which moved the runner into scoring position. That’s all that Tigers SS Angel Estevez needed when he came up to bat. Estevez ripped a double to left center to score Silva to make it 3-4 game and that would be the difference. Tigers reliever Michelle Ruiz came in and retired 7 straight hitters for the save. It was great game against a great team! Always a pleasure playing you guys! The Tigers go into the holiday break at 6-1 and look to continue when they return on 1/12/14 against the Magic City Red Sox. Jaime Soto took the mound today and brought his A-game as he pick up a much needed win for the Rangers. Jaime had a stellar performance,he struck out 23 batters against a young and strong Red Sox team. At the plate, J.M King would hit a 2 run bomb over the center field fence,keep up the good work JM.On behalf of all the Rangers we would like to wish all the players in the SFBL a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) closed out the 2013 portion of the schedule with a 16-6 win over the South Florida Dodgers at windy Sunset Park. The win enabled the Halos to remain undefeated thus far. Alvaro Gomez and Anthony DeFilippis led the way with three hits each. Phil Laufman drove in three runs, as did Keith Nicoll. Happy Holidays!
