William Dorsey was too much for the Dade Diamondbacks. William pitched 7 innings allowing only 2 runners to reach 2nd base the entire game. He allowed 4 hits, 0 BB, 0 runs and had 14 K’s. Billy Zoffinger pitched the last 2 innings getting the Diamondbacks out in order each inning. The Blues offense had 1 explosive inning highlighted by an RBI double by Billy Zoffinger and a hard 2 RBI single by Kenny Tyson. The score 9-0 equals our record 9-0. We are off next week due to the Roy Hobbs tourney. See you in on the 23rd.
D-Backs lose to The Blues…again

It was another beautiful day for baseball at Flamingo Park. The D-Backs unveiled their new green uniforms. The Blues scored 3 runs in the 1st inning on 3 uncharacteristic walks by D-Backs pitcher Matt Leban. Matt would settle down and pitch well, giving up 0 runs over the next 4 innings for a Blues 3-0 lead after 5 innings. The D-Backs offense sputtered, stammered and stumbled all game, unable to solve Blues pitcher William Dorsey. The D-Backs struck out 17 times on the day. The Blues added 3 runs in the 6th for a 6-0 lead after 6. Bob Villalona pitched the last 2 innings giving up 1 ER and 2 unearned runs for a 9-0 final score. Dan Barnard and Juan Nunez had 2 hits each in the loss.

Playing extremely shorthanded with two injured players, The Magic City Red Sox still think playing bad baseball is better than not playing at all. Yankees jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and never looked back. The only saving grace of the day was a rare triple play, when Tirado to Moore to Chow became the new Tinker to Evers to Chance. Thanks To Jay Habacht for helping with relief pitching duties. You can NEVER have enough pitching folks!

After Alvaro Gomez’s home run tied the score in the top of the fifth, the Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) got a clutch two run single from Claude Love in the seventh. That hit broke the tie in the Halos’ favor en route to an 11-4 win over the powerful Dade Tigers. Jeff O’ Kelley pitched six strong innings to garner the win. Gomez tossed three innings of exceptional relief to earn a save. Gomez and Anthony DeFilippis led the Angels with three hits each. The win reduces the Angels’ magic number for clinching the division’s regular season flag to one.

This game had all the makings of a heavyweight bout as both teams would exchange blows for the first 7 innings. The Angels would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Tigers would tie the score 1-1 in the bottom of the second when catcher Danger Villalobos would hit a solo shot to left. The next inning Jorge Castellanos would hit a Sac Fly to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The Angles tied the game again 2-2 in the top of the 4th and they continued to threaten with the bases loaded and one out but Tigers pitcher Ryan Paylor would get the batter to ground out to SS Angel Estevez who ended the rally with an unassisted double play. Once again the lead changed in the bottom of the 4th when Tigers outfielder Duane Medina hit an RBI double and made the contest 3-2 Tigers. That lead did not hold up long as the Angels once again tied it 3-3 in the top of the 5th with a lead off home run. The game remained tied 3-3 till the top of the 7th when the Angles would add two runs in the top of inning to make it 5-3 Angels. Tigers would add one run in the bottom of the 7th to cut Angels lead to one going into the 8th, That’s when two very uncharacteristic errors by the Tigers defense would give the hard hitting Angels the opportunity they needed. The Angels would break it wide open and score 6 runs to put this one out reach 11-4. The Tigers look to bounce back this week when they face the Rangers in another game with playoff implications.

This game featured 2 of SFBL’s best Lefty pitchers. Kenny Tyson of the Blues and George Kenhan of the Brewers. No wonder then that the score was 2-2 going to the top of the 8th inning. Here’s where the roller coaster ride begins. The Blues scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th with a lead off walk to Billy Zoffinger, an RBI by Brian Nentwig and a wild pitch by the Brewers relief pitcher. Score now 4-2 Blues. This would normally be plenty of runs for Kenny but an infield hit, a rare walk issued by Kenny, a single and it was 1 run in and 2 on. Kenny induced a lazy routine fly ball to right field. Our usually steady outfielder lost sight of the ball and it fell in for a double and 2 RBI. Going to the top of the 9th the Brewers were leading 5-4. In the top of the 9th our lead off hitter Sean Emory was hit by a pitch. The next batter hit a grounder to the pitcher. The pitcher picked it up and threw it into center field. 2 batters later an error by the Brewer SS tied the score 5-5 with 2 runners on. Kenny Tyson was up and hit a long hard line drive over the Center Fielders head for a 2 RBI triple. A 2 out clutch RBI single by Brian Nentwig and it was a Blues 3 run lead going to the bottom of the 9th. The Brewers would have no part of going out 1-2-3. A few hits, an out, another hit, an out and a run in and the score was 8-6 with the tying runners on base. Our relief pitcher Brian Nentwig came in. He gave up a first pitch single for another Brewer run. Score now 8-7 Blues with a runner on second base. Brian got the next batter on a grounder for a save and the final out. Always fun playing the Brewers. We escaped with a victory to keep our unbeaten streak at 8-0 this season. We would love to play the Brewers again this season.

It was a Lefty Dou for most of the game. Game was tied 2-2 entering the 8th.Jorge Hernandez Entered the 7th in relief after a leadoff single from the Blues, Jorge closed out the 7th.Then the Blues put 2 quick runs in the top of the 8th,but the Brewers answered back with 3 runs to take the lead 5-4.Brewers felt pretty good going into the 9th to seal the Victory,But the flood gates opened,leading off with a HBP,followed by a comebacker ground ball ,pither dicides to throw to 2nd but missed by a long shot.men on 2nd& 3rd followed a K. Infield in,ground ball to SS,tried to hurry to the ball and booted the ball. Blues end up scoring 4. Down 3 runs Brewers try to answer back scoring 2 and leaving men on 1st & 2nd. Final score 8-7. Always fun to play the Blues.Even though the outcome turned sour for the Brewers, it was a very competietive game from start to finish.looking forward to playing the Blues again.

This one was tied 0-0 after one but that wouldn’t last. The Tigers scored 2 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings with Rbi’s from Eddy Castellanos (3-3 1R, 2RBI, 1BB), Ryan Paylor (2RBI, 2SAC, 1R, 1BB), and Danger Villalobos (4-4, 2B, 3RBI, 3R). The bats would stay hot in the 4th as the Tigers would put up a 6 spot with the help of a 2RBI double by Rene Orovio (2-4 2RBI, 2R, 2B), another 2 RBI double by Danger Villalobos and RBI’s from Garvi Arias and Duane Medina. Tigers bats put up a total of 13 runs but the real story belongs to the pitching. In his second game back from injury Tigers Ace Ryan Paylor was near perfect in his 4 innings of work. Paylor pitched 4, faced 13 batters striking out 5 with no walks while only giving up 1 swinging bunt hit. Tigers 60 yr old gem Nelson Ruiz came in on relief and pitched 3 innings facing 15 batters, striking out 1 with no walks and 2 earned runs.

The Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) shutout the South Florida Dodgers as the battle for Los Angeles took place 2700 miles to the east. Juan Gonzalez flirted with a no-hitter and settled for a two hit shutout. Gonzalez walked two, hit a batter, and struck out six. Paul Tunink led the offense, going four for four with four RBI. Jamie Siragusa went three for three with two RBI, including his league leading third triple of the campaign. Claude Love, Jose Morales, Mike Fields, and Phil Laufman had two hits each for the Halos.
