The South Florida Baseball League held the Fall 2014 season ALL STAR GAMES this past Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the beautiful Cypress Bay Vista Park in Weston. The morning game featured the Masters Division All Stars against the Senior Division Team 2 All Stars. The second game featuring the Premier Division All Stars and the Senior Division Team 1 All Stars was rained out and will be made up in the Spring.

But the game was a BLAST!  The Senior Division All Stars defeated the Masters Division All Stars 9-3.  Joe Celli – Broward Indians started for the Senior All Stars and pitched  three scoreless innings against the Masters Division All Stars, using mainly off speed pitching. Carlos Torres – Florida Yankees was almost equally as effective for the Masters team, holding the Senior team to just one run over four innings.  However, the Seniors strung together 5 singles in the 5th inning to break the game open, breaking a 1-1 tie with a five run inning. The Senior All Stars were managed by Manny Fernandez-Deerfield White Sox, while the Masters All Stars were skippered by Jorge Orberta Sr.-Dade Nationals.

The defensive players of the game were Masters team Matt Goodnow-Miramar Rangers at third, making play after play, and the Senior team Howard Capote-Miami Cardinals, who ran down countless deep flies in center field.  Offensively, the Seniors were led by Jay Warman-South Florida Sting Rays, 2-3, 3 RBI, Howard Capote-Miami Cardinals, solo HR, Richard Perez-Miami Dodgers, 2-3, 2 RBI, and Juan Machado-Deerfield White Sox, 3-3.

The Masters team was led by Jesus Delgado-Miramar Rangers, 2-3 and Matt Goodnow-Miramar Rangers, 2-4, 2B. However, we want to give Carlos Pandolfo– South Florida Dodgers a special shout out. After flying out to the warning track in deep center field on back to back trips to the plate, Carlos drilled an RBI single in his third and final at bat.  The man crushed the ball all day.

But the biggest BLAST OF THE GAME was Howard Capote’s moon shot over the tall center field fence.  It was an amazing display of raw power! GO HOWARD!

And then it came down to electing the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER – JAY WARMAN – SOUTH FLORIDA STING RAYS.  The 3 RBI in his first two trips to the plate set the tone for the game and the Senior Team never looked back.  Congratulations Jay Warman – our 2015 SFBL ALL STAR MVP!
