Down 6-0 in the top of the seventh, the Kendall Metz staged a late rally to upset the 7 time defending champions Palm Beach Angels, 8-6, to win the Fall 2017 Season Masters Championship. Metz Ace, Andrew Smiley, led the way, pitching 8 1/3 innings and hitting a two run triple and an RBI double to pull the Metz back to even with the Angels in the eighth inning before Alex Lopez hit a game-winning two run bomb to put the Metz up for good 8-6. The Metz, led by veteran PC Cabrera, were yelling “You Gotta Believe! and We Belong!”
Angels Ace, Matt Leban, who has won numerous Angels championship games, was hurling another masterpiece through 6 1/3 innings, with one error spoiling a perfect game, only to fall victim to some uncharacteristic defensive lapses to open the floodgates for the Metz.
Special mention to Jaime Siragusa and the Palm Beach Angels, who had won 7 titles and 80 games in a row prior to the upset in the most amazing championship run in SFBL history. These guys were invincible!
