After 5 weeks in the Fall 2014 Season, we now can take a look at the standings and try to figure things out.
In the Premier Division, it looks like we are extremely balanced with the four wood bat teams sitting on 5 and 6 points in the standing. The Miami Red Sox lost their first game to perennial power Coral Gables Athletics, despite starting A’s killer Cory Casuso, and the Perrine Monarchs have yet to lose. Meanwhile the Miami Devil Dogs climbed back into contention
In the Senior Division, the talk is all about can the Davie Tigers go back-to-back in Senior Championships. The Tigers are 3-0 in the Broward Bracket and are riding like Bengals in the Wild. Can the South Florida Beach Bums close the gap? Their disappointing start has left the team 2-2. The Bums were top pick on some polls. Can the Southern Yankees make a run? They are 2-2 as well. Newcomers, Westchester Athletics are looking good at 3-1, sitting on top of the Dade Bracket, with the Miami Brewers, Miami Cardinals and South Florida Sting Rays not living up to expectations. All three of of those teams are expected to make the playoffs but sport unusually mediocre records.
The Masters Division looks like a one horse race at the moment with the defending champions, Palm Beach Angels, laying down a scorch the earth policy. The Miramar Rangers, were running with the Angels at the top of the heap until they ran into the Angels and got blown out. Show up with key guys missing and you will pay. Hold on, despite also getting blown out by the Angels, the Dade Nationals have quietly won three games and the South Florida Dodgers have won two. Make it into the playoffs and anything can happen. We have witnessed many a 12-0 or 11-1 team lose in the first round of the playoffs. It happens!
