This game will be played this Sunday 1/26/14 at Sunset Park at 9:30 am.

This game is a battle of the top 2 teams in the Masters Division. The Palm Beach Angels (6-0-1) are a perennial powerhouse with many years of SFBL success. The Dade Tigers (7-1) have returned to The SFBL after years of absence with a very talented squad. The 1st game played between these two teams this season was a great game, won by The Angels in extra innings!

Here is the game summary from 11/24/13:

Tigers fall short in extra innings
by Dade Tigers

The Tigers led this one for most of the game but they could not overcome the 14 walks given up by 3 combined pitchers. The Tigers led 8-5 after 5 thanks in partly to a 2 run Home Run by SS Angel Estevez and a solo shot to center by 3rd baseman Garvi Aries. That lead held until the bottom of the 7th inning when Tigers pitching gave up a lead off walk, a single, followed by another walk which led into SFBL veteran Keith Nicolls hitting a 2 out, 2-2 count towering grand slam over the left field wall that made it 9-8 Halos. The Tigers answered right back in the top of the 8th with a 2 run Home Run off the bat of Alain Hernandez and reclaimed the lead 10-9. Things were looking good for the Tigers in the top of the 9th when Jorge Castellanos hit a two out rbi to make the game 11-9 and give the Tigers a much needed insurance run going into the bottom of the 9th. But the Tigers bullpen could not hold on. 3 walks, a single, and a passed ball was all the Angles needed to score the two runs that would send this one into extra innings. After the Tigers did not capitalize in their half the Angels did just that by drawing 3 walks in the bottom of 10th to win it. Walking in the winning the run is a tough way to lose but this was a great game between two heavyweights that did not disappoint – 23 runs, 4 Home Runs, 5 double plays, highlights everywhere, and extra innings…what more can you ask for! The Palm Beach Angels are a great group of guys and we look forward to our next meeting. The Tigers head into the All Star break atop the division with a 3-1 record but there is still plenty of baseball to be played…can’t wait! Notable performers for The Dade Tigers: Angel Estevez 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, SB, HBP. Garvi Aries 2-4, 2B, HR, 3Runs, BB. Alain Hernandez 4-5, 2B, HR, 3RBI’s. Jonathan Silva 3-4, 1B, 2B, 3B.

Angels Rally In 10 Inning Thriller
by Palm Beach Angels

The Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) erased deficits of 8-3 and 11-9, the latter coming in the bottom of the ninth, and defeated the previously undefeated Dade Tigers, 12-11, in 10 innings. Jose Morales drew a one out, bases loaded, walk in the bottom of the 10th to score Rob Kuester with the game winning run. Keith Nicoll’s mammoth grand slam in the bottom of the seventh briefly gave the Halos a 9-8 lead, but after the Tigers plated three runs in the top of the eighth, the Angels were forced to rally again, which they did in the bottom of the ninth. Alvaro Gomez got the win in relief of Jose Estevez, but the Angels’ defensive star was third baseman, and player of the week candidate, Mike Fields, who made half a dozen sparkling plays at the hot corner. The Angels reach the Thanksgiving break without a loss in the hotly contested divisional race.
