Good Game with our old rivals |
by Miami Marlins (Premier Division) |
On a muggy Sunday full of red ants & mud, The A’s held on to win despite a valiant last inning rally by the Marlins. This season has started difficult for the defending back-to-back Champs, as we look to regroup and build consistency on the field. Solid pitching by Ryan, Siby, & Jimmy kept the game close and the A’s bats in-check. At the plate, quality AB’s for Siby going 2-3, Lester with a key Sac Fly to tie the game, & David with a double to start the last inning rally were some positives. Congrats to the A’s for a well played game and their recent Miami Open Championship. Good to have you guys back in the league. |
Great Game Ends With A’s Defeating Marlins 3-2. |
by Coral Gables Athletics (Premier Division) |
Sunday proved to be another great battle between the Miami Marlins and the A’s as both teams had great pitching and defense, but in the end the A’s were able to improve to 3-0 by defeating the Marlins 3-2. The A’s took an early lead in the 4th as Alvaro Gomez scored on an error by the left fielder after a base hit from Eric Perez. After the Marlins tied it in the top of the 7th, the A’s were able to quickly answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by doubles from Albert Jardines, Leo Portes and Chicho Vengoechea. The Marlins were able to tack on one in the top of the 9th, but the A’s were able to hold on. Overall, a great game between the long time rivals. The A’s were led by their Alex duo on the mound. Alex Arteaga earned his first win of the season going 7 strong innings while striking out 6. Alex Pena then came in to shut it down pitching the final 2 innings for the A’s and earning the save while striking out 3. Offensively, the A’s had 8 different hitters with a hit apiece including Gomez, Miguel Garcia, Luis Garcia and Ariel Bello. |

Dont let the score fool you. The Southern Yankees & Miami Cardinals played a very competitive game in which the Yanks managed to pull ahead in the later innings. The Cardinals jumped out with 2 runs in the top of the first but the Southern yANKEES responded by batting around and plating 4 runs. Both pitchers settled down after that and slowed down the pace over the next few innings. Midgame & leading 8-6 the Yankees broke open the contest with 5 runs in the sixth inning to seal the 15-7 win. Hector Perez pitched well to open the game. Christian Delarosa came in mid game to shut down the young Cardinals; allowing only a couple of runs over his 4 innings. Reidy Oliva was perfect at the plate & on base all 5 ABs. He stroked 3 hits & was vocal on the bench in support of his fellow players. Always our ironman Sam Bartoletta did a stellar job behind the dish throwing out would be base stealers from his kness. He also clubbed a couple hits and scored 4 runs. Whilmur FLOres continued his hot hitting with 2 massive doubles & 3 RBI along with a great bases loaded diving defensive play to thwart a potential Redbird rally. Hector Perez also contributed 2 rocket hits to also balance the attack. The baseball played was a bit sloppy defensive wise on both sides but still an overall fun game. A class team the expansion CardINALS will be a team to contend with in the not so distant future as all of us have experienced in the South Florida Baseball League maturation process. The Southern Yankees were missing key players but still managed to score douBle digit runs & notch the win. Good Luck Miami Cardinals & tough picher Alex;we wish you well the remainder of the campaign. The Southern YANKEES look to continue the streak with a 10 am game @ lynn University this Sunday 6/9.
