Canes hold off A’s |
by Miami Hurricanes (Premier Division) |
Behind another strong pitching performance from Manny Perdomo, Adam Mostasa, & Anthony Rodriguez, the Canes were able to hold off a stingy A’s team. After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning behind Chris Wilmoth’s 2RBI double, the Canes only added one more run in the 6th inning. The A’s cut that lead with runs in the 3rd & 4th innings. In the bottom of the 9th, the A’s made a rally that put the tying run on third and the winning run on second, but was cut short on a failed squeeze attempt. C Javy Rodriguez was able to get to the pop up on the squeeze attempt in time to turn and double up the runner on third. |
A’s Lose Thriller |
by Coral Gables Athletics (Premier Division) |
After a week of rain, the two undefeated teams in the Premier Division squared up as the A’s battled the Canes for a great game on Sunday which came down to the very last inning. The Canes jumped on the A’s early as they took advantage of two errors and took an early 4-0 lead. It seemed like this could too big of a lead for the A’s to come back on some very strong Canes’ pitching, but A’s starter, Alex Pena kept the A’s in the game as he settled down and ended up striking out 8 in 5. The A’s were able to cut the lead in half with runs in the 3rd and 4th with key hits from Alvaro Gomez, Leo Portes and Danny Canela but the Canes answered with another run in the 6th. The A’s would end up scoring one more and entered the bottom of the 9th down two. The A’s opened the inning with 2 walks before Miguel Garcia singled. With the bases loaded and one down, Gomez drew a walk to bring in the 4th A’s run and put the game within 1 run. Then with a 2-1 count, the A’s attempted a squeeze play but fouled the ball up in the air which was caught and with the A’s runner 3/4 of the way down the line, the Canes doubled up the A’s at third and won the game 5-4 in a thriller. All in all, it was a great game, well pitched by both sides which made up for some sloppy defense. |

Cory Casuso pitched a nine inning complete game to earn a solid win over the defending champions Miami Marlins. |
Marlins struggle |
by Miami Marlins (Premier Division) |
On a hot & windy Sunday morning, The Marlins blew an early lead and caught some tough breaks due to some nice outfield defense by the sox. We continue to struggle and still havent been able to join the Win column. Great relief pitching by Jimmy Efre and a solid effort behind the plate by Jerry Nava was not supported by errors and quiet bats during the second half of the game. Marlins look to field a complete team one of these Sunday’s and begin a win streak. |

Despite Brewers missing a few players on Sunday,we still came out to play hardball from the get go. Sean Hernanadez came to his own by throwing a 3 hit shotout with 8 K’s in 7 innings.Hopefully Brewers will keep this pace the rest of the Season. Good game Blackbats. |

D-Backs win |
by Dade Diamondbacks (Senior Division) |
It was a hot and sunny day at South Miami High School. The Cards drew first blood with 2 runs in the 2nd inning for an early 2-0 lead. The D-Backs would answer with 3 runs in the 3rd for a 3-2 lead. The D-Backs would bat around in the 4th and plate 6 runs for a 9-2 lead. Another insurance run in the 5th would end the scoring for the D-Backs. The Cards would not score in the 3rd-5th innings, but would rally for 4 runs in the 6th taking advantage of some defensive miscues. The game would end 10-6. Jay Habacht pitched 6 strong innings, giving up only 1 earned run. Mario Figueredo was superb in relief. Alvaro Hernandez, Xavier Ubiera and Danny Leon each had 2 hits. The Cards are a scrappy, good expansion team with a bright future. Good luck to manager Alex Manzano and The Miami Cardinals! |

Another game all the way North at Lynn University. Once again the field was not prepped for Us to play but the grounds crew came and got it ready. The Stingrays got off to a very slow start offensively while the Yanks came on strong from the get go. The Stingrays kept their composure and came up big in the late innings with some timely hits. Then Alec Lowrey came in to Pitch in the 7th and Shut down the Yankees to put Us in the Win column with a 9 to 8 Victory. Hats off to Ray and his Yankees its always A PLEASURE. |

The Southern Yankees lost a heartbreaker to the ever battling SOUTH fLORIDA rAYS 9-8. Christian de la rosa was pitching a gem of a game but a few late inning miscues by the Yankees defense & some timely hits by the Stingrays changed the outcome. THE SOUTHERN Yankees jumped out to an early 6-zip lead after 4 innings. Manager Jay & his young Rays squad kept battling and made the game interesting in the final innings. with the southern Yankees ahead 7-6 after 7 we headed for the eighth inning. The Southern Yankees would tack on an insurance run to make the score 8-6 going into the 9th. But the Stingrays would plate 3 big runs in the top half of the last inning to take a 9-8 lead. The southern Yankees big bats were quieted by 3 different 20 something year old flamethrowers who shut down the Yankees comeback in the bottom of the ninth. SO after cruising for most of the game we lose a heartbreaker but we learn from this and move on. Hats off to the south florida Rays- you have a very young team and are loaded with pitching & good hitters. Christain dela rosa pirched brilliantly in defeat with 8 strikeouts and was a stud on the mound. Reidy Oliva led the Southern Yankees attack with 3 hits & ken Silberling & Keith Litwak stroked two hits each. Silberling, Oliva & Ray Asmar drove in 2 runs apiece in this exciting baseball game. Great start & unfortunately just short finish but it was fun & with a full squad we know we can compete with the best of them. STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS! |

This was a great season match up and the Black Sox have finally come out on the winning side. Arian Suarez was able to keep the Angels on their toes thru his 7 inning debut. Juan Cardenza(3for3, 2B, R, 2RBIs)and Pablo Batista(2for3, 2B, 2R, BB, 2RBIs) lead the offense today in a hard fought victory. Hats off to the very tuff PB Angels team. Til we meet again…. |
